This is something I did in the past (around June 2007). I did not use photoshop for main coloring. I used a Japanese softeware called SAI to color it. The software is somewhat nicer than photoshop. But Im not good enough for clean outlining. It took me too much time to trace, so I changed to photoshop. The leaves are done with photoshop brush. There are bunch of brushes with funny shapes that can be used for certain things, so maybe try them out.
